Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a neuro-behavioral syndrome with origin in the central nervous system that affects the normal development of a child.
Symptoms occur in the first three years of life and include social, behavioral and communicational domains, mainly showing in problems with verbal and non-verbal communication, difficulties in sharing emotions, restricted and repetitive behavioral patterns, interests or activities, sensory sensibility, among others.
Clinically, ASD is very variable, not only between individuals but also along the life cycle. Comorbidities, associated to autism or other diseases, also affect the behavior of an individual with ASD.
Music therapy in ASD is planned according to the main needs of the child, being communicational, behavioral or socio-emotional.
